Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in any of the following opportunities, please fill out our online sign-up form or fill out this application and return it to Susan Chandler at Schandler@arcoforange.org.  Please check this page frequently as we update it to reflect our most immediate Volunteer Needs.

HOPE Gardens

The Arc’s HOPE garden bed needs volunteers to select a day that they can weed, water and harvest the garden.  Time commitment is once weekly between 30 minutes to an hour.

We have an extra garden bed this year specifically to grow flowers for Petals with a Purpose.  Volunteers can pick a day to weed, water and harvest this new garden bed addition.  Time commitment is once weekly approximately 30 minutes.

HOPE Gardens needs volunteers for Saturday’s Community Garden Day from 10am until 2pm (or any combination of that timeframe) to help with mulching; edging the new pathway around the lake; build a garden trellis; help build the lakeside patio.

Enjoy taking photos?  We need volunteer photographers so everyone can see how the garden is growing.

Petals with a Purpose

Volunteers are needed to help pick up the flowers each week at Whole Foods on Elliot Road, Chapel Hill,  Wednesday mornings before 9am and then deliver them to the Arc office.

Volunteers are needed to help deliver the flower vases to places in the community such as Extraordinary Ventures, Funny Girl Farm and Seymour Senior Center on Wednesday afternoons at 3pm.

Recyclers are needed to help soak, remove labels, prepare glass bottles and aluminum cans for repurposing into flower vases.  Time commitment one hour per week, flexible time you can do this at home.

Wooden cigar boxes are needed for handmade notecards.  Reach out to local cigarette and cigar shops ask if they would donate their empty boxes and pick them up. Time commitment one hour per week.

Want to help someone learn computer skills?

Not a computer expert?  Not a problem!  We are looking for someone with patience that can help an Arc individual learn basic computer skills.  Can be at the Chapel Hill Library or at the individual’s home in Chapel Hill.

Community Connections Partner Program

If you have four hours a month, you can make a friend and make a difference!  We currently need volunteers that are available to spend some time offering their friendship, creating a genuine relationship, going out and about exploring the community.  Flexibility allows you to choose your days and your times.  Must be 18 years or older and having a vehicle for transportation is preferred.
